The Runaways Page #3

Synopsis: In 1975, San Fernando Valley teen Joan Larkin reinvents herself as Joan Jett, a guitarist who wants to form an all-girl punk band. She pitches the idea to a sleazy manager, Kim Fowley, who pairs her with a drummer and then searches for a face: he finds Cherie Currie, at age 15, the perfect jailbait image for his purpose; by luck, she can sing. Two others round out the band, The Runaways. Fowley books a tour, signs them to Mercury Records, and packs them off to crowds in Japan. Seeds of conflict sprout early: Fowley puts Cherie front and center in the publicity, she's soon strung out on drugs and vodka, and jealousies arise. Without adult supervision, where can Joan and Cherie end up?

Fifteen.

208

00:
20:54,045 -- 00:20:56,713

Jail-f***ing-bait. Jack-f***ing-pot.

209

00:
20:59,342 -- 00:21:02,052

So we practice in a trailer

in the Valley.

210

00:
21:02,219 -- 00:21:04,554

-lt'll probably happen there.

-Okay.

211

00:
21:06,057 -- 00:21:07,849

Come find me.

212

00:
22:18,212 -- 00:22:19,754

Crap.

213

00:
22:47,116 -- 00:22:48,950

-Oh, hold on.

-Tempo.

214

00:
22:50,202 -- 00:22:53,038

-Well, l don't know what--

-Cherie Currie. Cherie Currie.

215

00:
22:53,205 -- 00:22:55,623

-Welcome.

-Thanks.

216

00:
22:55,791 -- 00:22:57,625

You look great.

217

00:
22:57,793 -- 00:23:00,045

What song are you going to

sing for us today?

218

00:
23:00,212 -- 00:23:01,963

-"Fever."

-"Fever."

219

00:
23:02,131 -- 00:23:03,631

Peggy Lee song?

220

00:
23:03,799 -- 00:23:06,468

-Who's Peggy Lee?

-My mom likes Peggy Lee.

221

00:
23:06,635 -- 00:23:10,180

Kim, you should have told her.

We don't play that sh*t.

222

00:
23:10,931 -- 00:23:12,474

Suzi Quatro covered "Fever."

223

00:
23:12,641 -- 00:23:16,478

It's a slow song.

We don't play slow songs.

224

00:
23:20,149 -- 00:23:22,317

Well, can you do a different song?

225

00:
23:23,569 -- 00:23:26,154

Yeah-- lt's just the only one

that I learned for today.

226

00:
23:26,322 -- 00:23:27,572

Go.

227

00:
23:27,740 -- 00:23:30,075

Wait outside. Go.

228

00:
23:30,242 -- 00:23:31,618

Go.

229

00:
23:35,706 -- 00:23:38,208

Joan, come here. Bring your guitar.

230

00:
23:41,587 -- 00:23:44,339

We'll just have to do it for her,

I guess.

231

00:
23:45,132 -- 00:23:48,343

Cherie Currie.

232

00:
23:49,553 -- 00:23:53,098

-She's a wild child. She's a wild girl.

-Yeah.

233

00:
23:53,307 -- 00:23:55,058

She's a wild girl.

234

00:
23:55,226 -- 00:23:56,851

She's a....

235

00:
23:57,686 -- 00:23:59,521

She's a firecracker.

236

00:
23:59,688 -- 00:24:03,191

Give me something else.

Something else. Firecracker, rocket.

237

00:
24:03,359 -- 00:24:05,068

Rocket, bomb. Bomb.

238

00:
24:05,236 -- 00:24:07,112

Cherry bomb. Cherry bomb.

239

00:
24:07,279 -- 00:24:08,404

Cherry bomb.

240

00:
24:08,572 -- 00:24:10,907

Just-- Do it again. Do it.

241

00:
24:12,493 -- 00:24:16,621

She's a cherry bomb

242

00:
24:17,498 -- 00:24:19,040

-That's good.

-Yeah.

243

00:
24:23,379 -- 00:24:25,922

Cherry bomb. All right.

244

00:
24:26,215 -- 00:24:28,174

Hello, Daddy

245

00:
24:28,342 -- 00:24:29,926

Hello, Mom

246

00:
24:30,094 -- 00:24:34,097

I'm your cherry bomb

247

00:
24:36,767 -- 00:24:38,059

-That's nice.

-Right? Yeah.

248

00:
24:39,145 -- 00:24:40,395

Yeah.

249

00:
24:44,233 -- 00:24:48,987

Hey, "His Majestic Hysteric" whatever

is ready for you now.

250

00:
24:49,155 -- 00:24:51,281

All right? Yeah.

251

00:
24:54,952 -- 00:24:56,369

Hello, Daddy

252

00:
24:56,537 -- 00:24:57,745

Hello, Mom

253

00:
24:57,913 -- 00:25:01,040

I'm your cherry bomb

254

00:
25:01,542 -- 00:25:02,750

Hello, world

255

00:
25:02,918 -- 00:25:04,544

I'm your wild girl

256

00:
25:04,712 -- 00:25:07,463

I'm your cherry bomb

257

00:
25:07,631 -- 00:25:09,424

Okay, you do it. Let's go.

258

00:
25:11,260 -- 00:25:12,886

Hello, Daddy

259

00:
25:13,053 -- 00:25:14,095

Hello, Mom

260

00:
25:14,263 -- 00:25:17,599

I'm your cherry bomb

261

00:
25:17,766 -- 00:25:18,933

Hello, world

262

00:
25:19,101 -- 00:25:20,602

I'm your wild girl

263

00:
25:20,769 -- 00:25:24,063

I'm your cherry bomb

264

00:
25:24,231 -- 00:25:28,109

Hey, street boy

Want some style?

265

00:
25:28,527 -- 00:25:32,447

Your dead-end dreams

Don't make you smile

266

00:
25:33,199 -- 00:25:36,284

Hey, street boy

Want some style?

267

00:
25:36,452 -- 00:25:39,412

Your dead-end dreams

Don't make you smile

268

00:
25:39,580 -- 00:25:42,582

I'll give you something

To live for

269

00:
25:42,750 -- 00:25:46,294

Have you, grab you

Until you're sore

270

00:
25:46,629 -- 00:25:48,463

I can't say that.

271

00:
25:49,006 -- 00:25:51,549

What? Oh, okay. Goodbye.

272

00:
25:51,717 -- 00:25:54,969

Go sell Girl Scout Cookies.

Who's next?

273

00:
25:59,183 -- 00:26:00,975

Come on, just do it.

274

00:
26:01,143 -- 00:26:02,310

It's just a song.

275

00:
26:05,731 -- 00:26:08,733

I'll give you something

To live for

276

00:
26:08,901 -- 00:26:11,152

Have you, grab you

Till you're sore

277

00:
26:11,320 -- 00:26:12,695

No, dog sh*t.

278

00:
26:12,863 -- 00:26:16,407

Dog sh*t. Urine-soaked dog sh*t.

Okay, listen...

279

00:
26:17,368 -- 00:26:21,120

...rock 'n' roll is a blood sport.

It is a sport of men.

280

00:
26:21,288 -- 00:26:24,791

It is for the people in the dark.

The death cats.

281

00:
26:24,959 -- 00:26:26,459

The masturbators.

282

00:
26:26,627 -- 00:26:29,170

The outcasts who have no voice,

no way of saying:

283

00:
26:29,588 -- 00:26:31,256

"Hey, l hate the f***ing world.

284

00:
26:31,423 -- 00:26:34,592

My father's a f*ggot.

F*** you! F*** authority!

285

00:
26:34,760 -- 00:26:37,011

I want an orgasm."

286

00:
26:37,763 -- 00:26:39,430

Now growl. Moan.

287

00:
26:39,598 -- 00:26:44,894

This isn't about women's lib, kiddies.

This is about women's libido.

288

00:
26:45,062 -- 00:26:49,857

I want to see the scratch marks

down their f***ing backs.

289

00:
26:50,025 -- 00:26:52,860

All right, do it again. Again. Like....

290

00:
26:54,446 -- 00:26:58,032

Like your sister just f***ed

your boyfriend in your parent's bed.

291

00:
26:58,200 -- 00:27:01,869

Like you want a f***ing orgasm.

292

00:
27:02,037 -- 00:27:04,205

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

293

00:
27:10,004 -- 00:27:13,881

I'll give you something

To live for

294

00:
27:14,049 -- 00:27:17,593

Have you, grab you

Till you're sore

295

00:
27:17,761 -- 00:27:19,345

Hello, Daddy

296

00:
27:19,513 -- 00:27:20,680

Hello, Mom

297

00:
27:20,848 -- 00:27:24,559

I'm your cherry bomb

298

00:
27:24,727 -- 00:27:26,102

Hello, world

299

00:
27:26,270 -- 00:27:27,812

I'm your wild girl

300

00:
27:27,980 -- 00:27:30,982

I'm your cherry bomb

301

00:
27:31,150 -- 00:27:33,151

That's getting pretty good.

302

00:
27:33,319 -- 00:27:34,569

That's great. Yeah.

303

00:
27:34,737 -- 00:27:36,571

-What do you think, ladies?

-Yeah.

304

00:
27:36,739 -- 00:27:38,072

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

305

00:
27:38,907 -- 00:27:40,575

-l like it.

-Quite a presence.

306

00:
27:42,077 -- 00:27:46,748

Oh, now, don't get cocky.

We have a lot of work left to do.

307

00:
27:49,251 -- 00:27:52,086

Hey, foxy, come here!

308

00:
27:59,595 -- 00:28:01,262

-Check it out.

-What?

309

00:
28:01,430 -- 00:28:02,805

Donny Osmond.

310

00:
28:02,973 -- 00:28:05,600

Destroy that sh*t.

311

00:
28:12,608 -- 00:28:14,108

Come on.

312

00:
28:15,486 -- 00:28:17,362

Oh, sh*t.

313

00:
28:29,166 -- 00:28:30,500

I wanna go back.

314

00:
28:34,755 -- 00:28:36,339

My mom's gonna kill me.

315

00:
28:36,507 -- 00:28:38,966

Don't you guys

have any kind of curfew?

316

00:
28:39,635 -- 00:28:41,094

I don't.

317

00:
28:41,261 -- 00:28:43,346
