583

00:
56:40,750 -- 00:56:43,999

And when he's not at home,

then his father and l..

584

00:
56:44,083 -- 00:56:49,165

..warm our eyes looking at them.

- There's a lot of love..

585

00:
56:49,250 -- 00:56:51,332

..between the three of you.

- Because there's no one else..

586

00:
56:51,416 -- 00:56:53,249

..to share our love with.

587

00:
56:54,458 -- 00:56:57,415

His mother and father passed

away when he was really small.

588

00:
56:58,000 -- 00:56:59,165

Since then we're the

only ones for him.

589

00:
57:00,750 -- 00:57:03,082

We're actually his aunt

and uncle.

590

00:
57:03,833 -- 00:57:06,832

But he calls us his

father and mother.

591

00:
57:08,333 -- 00:57:10,165

We don't have any

children of our own.

592

00:
57:11,583 -- 00:57:18,415

So, it's just the three of us.

Look, your plait is ready.

593

00:
57:21,083 -- 00:57:25,332

Hey. l look just like all of you.

- This is nothing.

594

00:
57:25,708 -- 00:57:29,332

You'll look like a true Punjabi

girl tonight. lt's Lodi tonight.

595

00:
57:29,500 -- 00:57:32,082

And here, we Celebrate

it with a lot of pomp.

596

00:
57:32,458 -- 00:57:35,832

l'll take out the dress l

wore for my first Lodi for you.

597

00:
57:36,208 -- 00:57:39,749

No, Maati, l'll wear my own clothes.

- You call me mother..

598

00:
57:39,833 -- 00:57:41,165

..and at the same time

argue with me?

599

00:
57:42,083 -- 00:57:44,415

Look, you'?e come to

our house just for a day.

600

00:
57:44,583 -- 00:57:47,082

For this one day at

least become one of us.

601

00:
57:55,000 -- 00:58:06,499

"Oh traveller, you've two

yellow and two red flowers."

602

00:
58:06,916 -- 00:58:08,582

Are you comfortable?

- Yes.

603

00:
58:08,666 -- 00:58:10,665

Like l was telling you.

When l was young..

604

00:
58:11,416 -- 00:58:13,832

..l would take Maati on a cycle

like this right till Amritsar.

605

00:
58:14,666 -- 00:58:18,582

Now, she's so become so fat

that she doesn't fit on a cycle.

606

00:
58:18,750 -- 00:58:21,499

No, Father, she's not fat at all.

- Oh, you don't know. l know.

607

00:
58:23,458 -- 00:58:24,999

Veer was telling me that Maati and..

608

00:
58:25,083 -- 00:58:27,582

..you have built this

village on your own. - Yes.

609

00:
58:27,666 -- 00:58:31,415

That's right. At first,

there were just fields here.

610

00:
58:32,250 -- 00:58:35,082

Then after writing many letters,

we arranged for electricity.

611

00:
58:35,666 -- 00:58:37,915

Do you see that hospital?

- Yes.

612

00:
58:38,208 -- 00:58:40,999

That was a Cow shed earlier.

How are you, Doctor?

613

00:
58:41,083 -- 00:58:42,165

Doing fine, sir.

- Very well, friend.

614

00:
58:42,583 -- 00:58:44,082

And look, the children's school.

615

00:
58:45,666 -- 00:58:47,499

Maati and l were the

first teachers here.

616

00:
58:48,166 -- 00:58:49,582

No one knew how to read or write.

617

00:
58:50,500 -- 00:58:52,999

Now, the kids study

here till eighth grade.

618

00:
58:53,416 -- 00:58:58,165

After that, the boys are sent off

to Kartarpur, for further studies.

619

00:
58:58,875 -- 00:59:00,999

And what about the girls?

- lt's not possible for us..

620

00:
59:01,083 -- 00:59:05,165

..to send the girls so far.

And anyway, they ha?e to learn to..

621

00:
59:05,250 -- 00:59:07,832

..look after the household. So, what

use is higher education for them?

622

00:
59:08,833 -- 00:59:10,332

That's not fair, Father.

623

00:
59:14,000 -- 00:59:15,999

Not fair? What do you mean by that?

624

00:
59:16,083 -- 00:59:18,082

l hope you don't mind this, Father.

625

00:
59:18,166 -- 00:59:20,249

What you and Maati have

done for this village..

Aditya Chopra

Aditya Chopra (born 21 May 1971) is an Indian filmmaker. His work as a director includes Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Mohabbatein (2000), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and Befikre (2016).He is also the current Chairman of India's multi-national film, media and entertainment conglomerate Yash Raj Films (YRF). Chopra has written and produced a number of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films under the banner such as Veer-Zaara (2004), Fanaa (2006), Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), the Dhoom series (2004, 2006 & 2013), Sultan (2016) and the Tiger series (2012 & 2017). He has broken away from typecast through production of off-beat films such as Kabul Express (2006), Chak De! India (2007), Rocket Singh (2009), Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) and Hichki! (2018), that do not necessarily fit into the realm of "Masala films". Chopra is also the first to move towards a true film studio model through independent projects helmed by producers, writers and directors under his banner. Major production and post-production work of the company is now carried out of YRF Studios (co-founded by his ex-wife Payal Khanna), where Chopra serves as Chief Executive. As of March 2018, he has produced eight films that have accumulated worldwide gross earnings of more than ₹200 crore, which is the most for an Indian film producer. In December 2009, Chopra rejected an extremely aggressive acquisition bid by Walt Disney, valued upwards of ₹2500 crore, to remain and continue purely as an independent entity exclusively funded by domestic enterprises. Apart from emerging as an equitable brand, his company has earned the status of a movie movie mogul, through distribution networks spread across the globe. With a majority of his work being part of the highest grossing films of all time, the company is estimated to be net worth ₹6350 crore (FY17/18) by multiple NSE and BSE analysts, thereby making it the biggest and most successful film production company in the history of Cinema. The Government of India honoured him with the National Film Award for his contribution to the arts, on three separate years (1995, 2005 and 2007) through the Directorate of Film Festivals. In June 2018, he was awarded membership into The Academy by the Producers Guild of America. Widely regarded as one of the most influential and powerful executives in Indian entertainment, Chopra has however rejected the publicity and fame that came with being Yash Chopra's son and the Chief Executive of Yash Raj Films. He has remained extremely media-shy and a passive individual, battling constant reports of an alleged dysthymic disorder throughout his three-decade career, resulting in very few public photos of him being in existence. more…
